The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a new requirement for all vehicle and motorcycle owners who wish to update their duty status and vehicle records.
This follows the operationalization of a new duty update module and a vehicle records update tool, which the Authority says will enhance service delivery to institutions such as banks, government agencies, insurance firms, motor vehicle dealers, and other stakeholders.
In a notice released Tuesday, July 29, NTSA stated that the exercise aims to streamline and harmonize motor vehicle data.
As part of the process, owners are required to submit specific documentation to facilitate the updating of their records, which includes a written request for duty or records update containing the owner’s phone number and email address.

The Authority emphasized that NTSA must stamp this letter, as the stamped copy will serve as proof of submission.
Additionally, owners must present a copy of their national identification card, the original vehicle logbook, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) entry document, and the official duty payment receipt.
"The following documents are required to facilitate duty status/records update for motor vehicles and motorcycles: A duty/records update request letter. Kindly ensure the contact information (Phone Number and email address) of the motor vehicle owner is provided.
"A copy of the same letter shall be stamped by the Authority as proof that the documents were perused and received. Copy of the identification card of the owner. The original logbook for the motor vehicle. KRA Entry document. Duty payment receipt," part of the statement read.
According to the notice, the NTSA website provides further details regarding submission locations, document processing charges, collection procedures for processed documents, and applications for duplicate logbooks.
