Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has distanced himself from a social media post purportedly showing him supporting President William Ruto’s remarks on corruption in the Senate.

In a statement on Monday, August 18, Guyo clarified that the screenshot being shared is fabricated and did not originate from him.

"This is to clarify that the screenshot circulating online is fake and not from me. Kindly disregard it," he stated.

Speaking during the Kenya Kwanza-ODM Parliamentary Group meeting earlier Monday, Ruto accused senators of turning oversight proceedings into a marketplace, alleging that governors seeking to defend themselves often had to pay bribes

He referred to instances of Ksh150 million being demanded during Senate sessions where governors appeared for grilling or impeachment.

"I am a consumer of raw intelligence every day. In the Senate, when a governor appears for grilling or impeachment, the chambers are nicknamed soko huru. Where does one even get Ksh150 million? Isn’t that money meant for counties?" he asked.

Notably, Guyo survived an impeachment attempt after the Senate ruled that the Isiolo County Assembly did not follow proper procedure during its sittings.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the decision on Tuesday, July 8, stating that the impeachment motion against Guyo was procedurally flawed.

"The Senate finds that the County Assembly of Isiolo did not appropriately hold sittings on the 18th of June 2025, and 26th of June 2025, to table, debate, and pass a vote on the motion for the proposed removal from office by impeachment of the Governor of Isiolo County, Hon. Abdi Hassan.

"The impeachment proceedings terminate forthwith. As a result, Hon. Abdi Ibrahim Hassan retains his seat as the Governor of Isiolo County," he said.

Guyo's impeachment followed a resolution passed by the Isiolo County Assembly on Thursday, June 26, with 16 out of 18 MCAs supporting the motion.

Allegations include abuse of office, constitutional violations, creating an inflated executive structure of 36 advisors and 31 chief officers, neglect of key revenue targets, and mismanagement of bursary funds.

In the end and with the Senate’s verdict delivered, Guyo called for unity and a renewed focus on development in the county.

"To my family, friends, and all supporters, your prayers, steadfast belief, and unwavering commitment have been our greatest strength. This victory belongs to all of us. With this chapter behind us, we now refocus our energy on what truly matters: driving meaningful development, fostering unity, and fulfilling our shared vision of a thriving Isiolo.

"The journey ahead continues with greater resolve, renewed purpose, and an unshakable commitment to serve with integrity and dignity," he added.
