MPs allied to the Kenya Moja faction have demanded the immediate resignation of Health CS Aden Duale.

Members of Parliament allied to the Kenya Moja faction have demanded the immediate resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, August 27, the MPs accused CS Duale of conflict of interest, complacency, and hoodwinking Kenyans.

Kitutu Chache MP Anthony Kibagendi alleged that CS Duale is associated with the company that developed the Social Health Authority (SHA) system.

“We demand the immediate resignation of honorable Aden Duale, the CS for Health, for conflict of interest, complacency, trying to hoodwink Kenyans with theatrics of summoning the media to harass facilities, and suspending some facilities.

"He has been talking tough out here, putting on a face just to hoodwink Kenyans,” said the Kitutu Chache South MP.

Kibagendi termed SHA as a grand calculated scam, citing rushed implementation and lack of transparency.

“SHA is not a reform; SHA is a grand, calculated scam. We have uncovered evidence of deep-rooted conflict of interest. The CS for Health is reportedly associated with the same company that developed the SHA system, “ he alleged.

Further, the Kenya Moja MPs demanded the resignation of SHA Chairperson Mohamed Abdi and SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi over fraudulent payments.

“We demand the immediate resignation of the SHA chairperson who is associated with the Ladnan health facility. We also demand the resignation of the SHA CEO who is facilitating this theft,” Kibagendi added.

This comes a day after SHA suspended 45 health facilities from providing services under the Social Health Insurance program.

The authority in a gazette notice said that the suspended facilities are barred from offering services to SHA beneficiaries.

"In accordance with the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act, the facilities listed in the Schedule shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during their suspension,” the gazette notice read in part.

Speaking in a press briefing on Monday, CS Duale dismissed social media allegations that SHA has been making payments to non-existent or non-operational healthcare facilities.

The Health CS termed the claims as information his ministry already possesses through legitimate channels.

"The facilities you found circulating on social media are facilities that the majority of them were closed in May, and you can check with the regulator's website, or with the DHA, they were closed," Duale stated.
