The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced that all payments for services at Karura Forest will now be made through the e-Citizen platform.
In a statement, the service said the new payment method for Karura Forest takes effect on Friday, August 29.
KFS noted that all payments for gate entry, parking, and related services in Karura Forest, including the Sigiria block, will now be paid through the eCitizen platform Paybill number 222222.
KFS explained that the KFS move follows a directive from the Government requiring the onboarding of all government services onto the e-Citizen platform.
“Kenya Forest Service wishes to inform all visitors that, in line with the Government of Kenya’s directive on the onboarding of all government services and closure of non-designated payment platforms (National Treasury Circular CAB/ADM.2A/6 Vol.1/(122)), all payments for gate entry, parking, and related services in Karura Forest, including the Sigiria block, will be made exclusively through the official e-Citizen platform (Paybill 222222) effective Friday, 29th August 2025,” read the statement in part.

The service further said that the transition to e-Citizen is part of its initiative to improve transparency, security, and efficiency in public service delivery.
KFS also assured members of the public that all its services and activities remain unchanged despite changing the payment method.
“All other activities and services in Karura Forest will continue as usual, and our collaboration with the Community Forest Association remains unchanged,” KFS stated.
In June 2023, President Ruto directed that all payments for government services be channeled through a consolidated Paybill.
The Head of State emphasized that the move would enhance management and transparency in revenue collection while curbing leakages from multiple collection points.
He also said the payment of services through eCitizen would eliminate corruption and discrimination that is inherent in human interactions.
In November 2024, President Ruto noted that the eCitizen platform hosts 20,855 services and boasts a thriving community of 13 million active users.
"ECitizen is not just a digital service delivery platform; it represents a paradigm shift that has redefined public service delivery in Kenya and profoundly impacted lives.
“In many ways, both big and small, our understanding and expectations of how public services are provided have fundamentally changed," Ruto explained.
