The bid was for a three-year-old Chianina bull weighing 885 kilograms, imported from South Africa.

President William Ruto won a bid against several other leaders on Thursday, September 4, after securing a prized bull for Ksh1 million at the Mombasa International Agriculture Society of Kenya (ASK) Show livestock auction.

The Head of State emerged victorious in a heated bidding war for a three-year-old Chianina bull weighing 885 kilograms, imported from South Africa.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi initiated the bidding at Ksh300,000, with President Ruto immediately raising the stakes to Ksh400,000. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir then pushed the price to Ksh500,000, prompting Kingi to counter with Ksh550,000.

Governor Nassir responded with a Ksh600,000 bid before President Ruto escalated the competition with a Ksh700,000 offer.

Following brief consultations between Ruto, Kingi, Governor Nassir, Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, the final bid of Ksh1 million was announced, securing the bull for the President.

Earlier in the auction, President Ruto had made an opening bid of Ksh200,000 for a bull called Santa Ghetto. However, Principal Secretary Mueke quickly raised the bid to Ksh300,000, with Sports Cabinet Secretary Mvurya ultimately winning that auction with a Ksh350,000 bid.

The event features exhibitions highlighting agricultural products and technology, business networking opportunities, entertainment and cultural activities, and livestock displays, including the Farmers' Oasis and Livestock Pavilion.
