Two people have died, while several have been left injured after a 14-seater matatu was involved in an accident with a trailer at the Zambezi area along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the matatu driver attempted to avoid an oncoming trailer traveling at high speed, forcing him to swerve to the side of the road.
"The driver of the matatu was trying to evade the oncoming trailer which was moving at a high speed before swerving to the side of the road," one of the passengers recounted.
Those injured in the crash were rushed to Thogoto Mission Hospital for treatment. At the same time, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the facility's mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examination and identification.
The Monday incident marks the latest in a series of fatal crashes along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway in recent days.

On Sunday, September 28, at least 13 people died and others were injured in a grisly road accident near Kariandusi on the same highway.
A passenger vehicle crashed into a truck at midday, with Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio confirming the incident.
Members of the public arrived at the scene to assist in rescue efforts as police processed the site, which caused significant traffic disruption.
Hours before the Sunday crash, another accident was reported on Saturday evening, September 27, near Kimende in Kiambu County.
A St Mary's Ambulance carrying six people - including a driver, nurse, patient, her husband, and two relatives - was involved in a collision that completely damaged the front end of the vehicle.
The series of accidents along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway has raised fresh concerns about road safety on one of Kenya's busiest transport corridors. Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive response to the rising fatalities.
