The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued an urgent weather alert warning residents of Nairobi Metropolis to brace for intensifying rainfall.
In a notice released on Friday, the weatherman warned that ongoing rains are expected to intensify across parts of the Nairobi Metropolis from Friday through Sunday, with conditions ranging from moderate to very heavy rainfall.
According to the alert, residents should expect moderate rainfall of between 5 and 20 millimeters in some areas, while others will experience heavy downpours of 20 to 50 millimeters within 24 hours.
In certain locations, very heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters is anticipated, raising concerns about potential flooding.
The Met Department further cautioned that isolated afternoon and evening storms may develop during this period, potentially leading to localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and slippery roads across the capital city.

"Stay alert and plan," the weather alert urged residents.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution on the roads, particularly in the afternoon and evening, when storms are most likely to develop.

On September 30, the weatherman issued a broader weather update warning of heavy rainfall across five regions in the country.
In a forecast released on Tuesday that week, the Kenya Meteorological Department said the rains were expected in the Highlands of East and West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, as well as the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya regions.
The department urged Kenyans living in those regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions, noting that isolated heavy rainfall events could occur in some areas.
The forecast indicated that rainfall would affect several parts of the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Northwestern Kenya.
The weatherman had also predicted that the coastal region would experience occasional rainfall during the period, while much of northeastern Kenya and parts of the southeast were likely to remain dry throughout the week.
