Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda has sparked debate after sharing a public message addressed to her party chairman, Gideon Moi, following his meeting with President William Ruto.

In a statement on Thursday, October 9, Lesuuda said she had previously avoided addressing Moi in public but felt compelled to speak up due to the gravity of the matter.

"My dear Chairman Hon. Gideon Moi, we have had many conversations in private, and I have never addressed you in public, but the matter being discussed is of national importance," she said.

Lesuuda noted that Moi’s decision to run in the Baringo Senatorial by-election or not, and to join forces with Ruto, ultimately rests with him.

“The choice to run or not to run for the Baringo Senatorial seat is purely your personal decision since you must have done an introspection of whether to or not, despite the many voices you have listened to. Who you also choose to work with in the national politics moving forward is purely your personal decision," she added.

However, Lesuuda expressed disappointment at what she described as Moi’s silence and lack of communication with the party.

She urged Moi to address his supporters directly, show empathy, and provide clear guidance on the way forward for KANU.

"My only concern and that of many who have believed in you and the party is your choice not to give direction and not to communicate on time of your decisions.

"We feel not listened to, not heard, or felt. Especially the felt part, Chairman address your supporters of your decision, lead with empathy, carry us along," she further said.

The post generated widespread reactions online, with Kenyans expressing divided opinions about Moi’s recent moves.

About a week ago, KANU confirmed that Moi would be on the ballot in the forthcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election.

In a statement on Thursday, October 2, the party revealed that Moi had been nominated after wide-ranging consultations both within the party and with the people of Baringo.

"The Kenya African National Union (KANU) wishes to formally announce that, following extensive consultations, deliberations, and consensus within the party and with the people of Baringo, our National Chairman, Hon. Gideon Moi, has been nominated as the party's candidate for the forthcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election," the statement read.

However, following a meeting between Moi and Ruto at State House on Thursday, October 9, KANU Secretary General George Wainana confirmed that Moi has dropped out of the race.
