A six-hour meeting between allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and a section of senior politicians in the country has sparked talk of a possible alliance the ODM leader may use should he contest in the 2022 general election.
On Tuesday, Odinga’s close allies; Siaya Senator James Orengo and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyongo were locked up in a six-hour meeting at a Nairobi hotel with among others; former Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad) Mukhisa Kituyi and Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Mohamed Kuti (Isiolo).
Reports on a local daily indicate that the meeting revolved around the political identity of the attendees, creating a roadmap to 2022 and the best way to tackle the political battle in the coming years.

“They discussed their working arrangements, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be worked on by a group of experts and lawyers who will be picked, and their roadmap. There will be many more meetings in the coming weeks and months before they solidify their political marriage,” a source privy to the meeting said.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Interior CS Fred Matiang’I and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi were among the leaders expected at the meeting, but excused themselves on the ground that they are public officers.
Following the meeting, speculation is rife that Raila could be working with the leaders to come up with a new coalition for the 2022 general election.
Currently, his former allies in the NASA coalition have teamed up with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to form the One Kenya Alliance.
