Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has revealed he was determined to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after he resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking on Tuesday, November 18, Havi said he changed his mind after observing growing internal disputes within the ODM Party.
Havi noted that leaders such as Edwin Sifuna and James Orengo appear increasingly dissatisfied with the direction the ODM party is taking.
“You know, a few days ago, after I resigned from UDA, I was determined to join ODM. But how can I join an ODM where Okongo Omogeni is dissatisfied?
“How can I join an ODM where Sifuna is dissatisfied? How can I join an ODM where Orengo is dissatisfied? It is a quagmire,” Havi stated.

The former LSK President went on to urge Westlands residents that ODM is no longer the desirable party it once was.
“And as I speak to my people of Westlands, let me depict to you the desirable ODM was the ODM of these gentlemen. They are dissatisfied; they are not happy. It speaks a lot,” he added.
Havi formally resigned from UDA on November 7, 2025, in a letter addressed to the UDA Secretary General, Hasan Omar, and copied to the Registrar of Political Parties.
The former LSK President, however, did not disclose the reason behind his resignation from the ruling party.
“I hereby give notice of resignation as a member of the United Democratic Movement (UDA) effective today, in accordance with Section 14 of The Political Parties Act, Cap 7D of the Laws of Kenya. Please, notify the Registrar of Political Parties of my resignation to enable the removal of my name from the membership list of the party,” Havi stated.
He joined UDA in 2021 and used the party ticket to run for the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election.
Havi lost the election to Tim Wanyonyi, who vied on an ODM ticket.
