DCI detectives have arrested a suspect impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier and conning unsuspecting Kenyans with fake KDF recruitment letters.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a suspect who was impersonating a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 18, DCI said the suspect, identified as Joshua Muimi, was conning unsuspecting Kenyans with fake KDF recruitment letters.

“Parklands detectives have arrested an impostor who has been parading himself as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) brigadier, preying on the hopes of innocent citizens and extorting money in the guise of recruitment.

“Joshua Mutui Muimi, who had upgraded himself from civilian to “KDF brigadier” without ever seeing a parade square, has been on a money-minting spree, conning hopeful youths with fake recruitment letters to the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret,” read the statement in part.

Acting on intelligence, detectives raided Muimi’s rented Kilimani apartment, where he was found fully kitted out in Kenya Air Force regalia.

The sleuths searched the apartment and recovered multiple incriminating items, including documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, fake admission letters with identical serial numbers and fingerprint forms.

“Detectives recovered documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, including six fake admission letters bearing the same serial number, seven fingerprint forms, and a Yilmaz Defence Industry ammunition manufacturing manual, among other incriminating materials,” DCI stated.

The suspect was taken into custody and is undergoing processing pending arraignment in court.

This comes weeks after KDF conducted a nationwide recruitment exercise for General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and Constables.

The new group of recruits began their military training on November 11 at the Defence Forces Recruit Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

"The Defence Forces Recruit Training School (DFRTS) today marked a significant milestone as it officially received recruits for Cohort 01/25 in an event that was presided over by Brigadier Alphonce Ndar of KDF at Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County," KDF said in a statement.

During the ceremony, Brigadier Ndar congratulated the recruits and urged them to maintain focus and discipline throughout their training period.

"I wish you nothing but success, stay healthy, take care of yourselves, and approach your training with discipline and commitment," he said.

The new KDF recruits will undergo a rigorous induction process that will prepare them for full military life.

The process includes physical, technical, and leadership training aimed at instilling professionalism and discipline.
