The sleuths came across a lorry carrying the multi-million shilling substance, and four other chase vehicles used in distribution.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) are detaining six people in connection with the trafficking of bhang in Mombasa.

In a statement Sunday, November 23, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the substances in question were worth KSh72 million.

The ANU detectives were tipped off with information about traffickers carrying sacks of bhang inside a lorry en route to Mombasa.

Two of them were in the lorry, and another group distributed in three vehicles.

"A well-coordinated operation led by Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives in Mombasa has resulted in the arrest of six traffickers along with the seizure of bhang valued at approximately KSh72 million," the DCI said.

Unaware of what awaited them, the suspects continued with their journey on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

The detectives intercepted the lorry, registration details KDT 659G, and forced an inspection.

Six suspects were arrested in Mombasa in connection with the trafficking of bhang worth KSh72 Million.

They came across 50 sacks of bhang, all weighing 2,400 kilogrammes.

"Acting on intelligence, detectives intercepted a truck with registration number KDT 659G along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway before the narcotics hit the streets. An inspection of the truck uncovered 50 sacks stuffed with long rolls of bhang wrapped with khaki papers weighing a total of 2,400 kg," the DCI said.

The detectives, upon interrogating the lorry's driver, Nolden Ogola Misieba, and his co-driver, Andrew Kaida, established that the aforementioned three vehicles were to distribute the substance across Mombasa.

"Detectives also intercepted three more vehicles believed to be part of the distribution chain: KCL 458S, a Toyota Noah driven by Jefferson Kamau with his accomplice, Lawrence Onyango; KCZ 567R, a Nissan Note driven by John Lutomia; and KDQ 867K, a Toyota Vitz driven by Samuel Juma Okoth," stated the DCI.

"Subsequent investigations have since revealed that the three vehicles were meant to be loaded with the intercepted consignment for distribution across Mombasa and its environs," the investigations body added.

The detectives, while holding the six suspects, seized the bags and vehicles for use as exhibits upon the men's arraignment.
