The Mashemeji Derby, which had been scheduled for Sunday, November 30, will not take place after Gor Mahia confirmed that the match has been pushed forward.

In an announcement on Wednesday, November 26, the club announced that a suitable venue was unavailable, prompting a delay until a new date is set.

"The highly anticipated Derby match that was set for this weekend postponed due to unavailability of venue; new date to be communicated in the coming days," the club announced.

The update followed an earlier communication from Gor Mahia Secretary-General Nick Arum to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), where he explained the circumstances that had forced the club to seek a postponement.

In his letter, Arum outlined the steps the club had taken and the situation that led to their decision to reach out to the federation.

"I write to formally notify your office that, as the host team for the forthcoming SportPesa League match against AFC Leopards (Derby), we have been unable to secure a suitable venue for the fixture.

"In light of this challenge, we kindly request that the match be postponed to a later date to be communicated by your office in due course," he said.

Arum also acknowledged the disruption the postponement may cause for fans, league officials and the competing teams.

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause and assure you of our commitment to ensuring that the match proceeds smoothly once the new date is confirmed," he added.

The postponement comes a day after Gor Mahia suffered a 4-1 defeat against APS Bomet in their league clash at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Gor Mahia had gone into the match as favourites, especially after taking an early lead, but an organised performance from APS Bomet completely turned the game around.

Gor Mahia struck first through George Amonoo, who put them ahead and briefly settled the nerves of the home supporters.

However, that early breakthrough did little to disrupt APS Bomet’s game plan or confidence; Hansel Ochieng was the undisputed star of the day, scoring a brilliant hat-trick.

As Gor attempted to chase the game late on, Rodgers Kipkemoi added a fourth goal for APS Bomet, sealing a remarkable win.
