“Bodaboda guys have today morning burned down a bus belonging to Mash Poa after an accident with a bodaboda at Salgaa, a few metres outside Salgaa police station,” Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) said in a statement.
The Motorist Association condemned the torching of the bus and called on the security agencies to take action on the boda boda operators behind the incident.
“Boda boda riders have torched a Mash Poa Bus after one of them collided with the Kampala-bound bus dying in the impact. This is so sad and unacceptable. DCI, NPS, and Kipchumba Murkomen make this the last vehicle to be torched by boda boda,” the association stated.
The incident comes months after another group of boda boda operators set a Super Metro bus on fire following a fatal road accident along Thika Road.
The matatu had knocked down a motorcyclist, sparking outrage among fellow riders who mobilized and torched the vehicle.
In a statement after the accident, Super Metro said the accident occurred as the bus was traveling downhill behind a tuk-tuk that attempted to change lanes.
Super Metro Limited deeply regrets to confirm a tragic accident that occurred on September 1, 2025, involving one of our buses, registration number KCZ358N, along Juja.
"While traveling downhill, the bus was following a tuk-tuk that attempted to change lanes. A motorbike rider, overtaking at high speed, swerved to avoid the tuk-tuk, struck a pavement, and fell. Tragically, the rider was fatally injured by the bus and passed away at the scene," the statement read.
