President Uhuru Kenyatta today launched the Ksh6.5 billion Semi-Conductors Technologies factory at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology's Science and Technology Park (DeST-Park) in Nyeri County.
The Head of State commissioned the science park on Monday, April 26, 2021.
The institution is expected to bridge the technology gap in the innovation industry through incorporating knowledge-based anchor tenants, investors and the innovation community.

The factory manufactures integrated circuits, sensors, and other nanotechnology products, and is an anchor project of DeST-Park.
DeST-Park rests on 177-acre land. The project started in 2016 and quite a lot of work on planning and conceptualisation went into its completion.
Hotels, offices, conference centres and recreational venues are some of the facilities at the complex. It houses a specialised regional hub for the testing and validation of viable products from incubation and innovation.
Agriculture-technology, design material and marketing (DMM), and information communication technology (ICT) have been accommodated at the establishment.
The science park is dedicated towards the set up of enterprises including start-ups in food bio-resources value addition, ICTs, and technological products on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
