The Jubilee Party has fired back at President Ruto after he accused retired President Uhuru Kenyatta of funding opposition candidates to challenge him in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement on Thursday, August 13, Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta said President Ruto should stop targeting Uhuru and instead focus on issues affecting Kenyans.
Ole Kenta argued that the current administration could no longer continue campaigning against a retired Head of State who left office in 2022, saying the strategy will not work.
“Let it be said plainly, a government that has been in power for a full term cannot keep campaigning against a man who left office in 2022.
“At some point, leadership means answering for your own record, not recycling grievances against your predecessor as a substitute for one,” the statement read in part.

Ole Kenta also said that Uhuru is entitled to his peace, his privacy, and his opinions like any other Kenyan citizen.
“If retired President Kenyatta’s presence is such a threat, it is only because his record still stands as a mirror this administration would rather not look into.
“You do not spend four years attacking a private citizen unless his silence would say more than your speeches do,” he stated.
Further, Ole Kenta said Kenyans elected the Ruto government to provide solutions rather than campaigning against Uhuru.
“If the loudest thing this administration can produce four years in is another smear campaign about Uhuru Kenyatta, then perhaps it is not him who owes the country an explanation,” the Jubilee SG added.
President Ruto on Wednesday claimed that Uhuru was envious of him because he had achieved what he could not in his 10-year rule.
He stated that he would not be intimidated by the 'Wantam' talk, and argued that politicians allegedly sponsored to face him in 2027 should tell Kenyans what they had to offer.
"When you look at their sponsor, didn't he fail to deliver on Affordable Housing, Universal Healthcare Coverage, and Education? Now he has gone to sponsor his protoges to come and compete with me.
"I will defeat them early in the morning because they have no plan, agenda, policies, or vision," Ruto stated.
The Head of State urged those allegedly sponsored by Uhuru to prepare themselves for a battle of ideologies and delivery track record.
