The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has explained the power supply interruption in the Congo Area in Kahawa West estate on Friday, August 14.

Kenya Power explained that it was conducting a planned power maintenance in the area and promised to inform residents once the exercise was complete.

The Company added that the exercise was to improve power supply in the area after locals raised complaints.

Photos shared by KPLC showed one of the engineers atop an electricity pole assessing the installation of cables on one of the transformers serving the estate.

"To safely complete the works, customers in the area will experience a power interruption. We’ll update you once power is restored," the statement read in part.

Earlier, KPLC issued a notice of planned power maintenance in five counties. In Kisumu, Susan Owiyo, SOS Children's Home, Kango Enterprises, Kanyakwar, Campus Industries, and Riat Estates would go without power from 9 a.,m to 5 p.m.

In Kakamega County, customers living around Matate Market, Nambilima, Butali Sugar, and Butali Market were told to expect an eight-hour power supply interruption.

Kenya Power also announced maintenance in Ogengo, Nyarach, Nyaburu, Nyamuga, Odienya, Ngodhe, Opapa, Nyangau, Kudho and Ofwanga areas.

The firm added that there would be planned power maintenance in Meru County from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Areas around Kinaa, KWS Office and Kiengu Market will be affected, including Kaweru, Kihutini, Kipkona, Kinaa Market, KWS, Rhino Camp, and Njoune.

Others are Kamiruru, Nthare, Nguyuyu, Matindui, Kiengu, Kabuitu, Kiamuringa, Kanjoo, Mangala, Ikweta, Kanake, Therone, Thambiro, Materine and Garbatula.

In Mombasa County, residents living around the Dolphin and Serena areas were notified of disruptions in electricity supply from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.

Customers listed by Kenya Power include Dolphine, Flamingo Pride Inn, Tembo Conference Centre, Kiluwa, Shasha, Navy, and Shimo la Tewa High School.

Shanzu Teachers College, Pride Inn Serena, Shanzu Garden, Cowrie Shell, Go Cart and Petrociny, together with adjacent customers, will also be affected.
