UDA Party has announced a change to the date of its grassroots elections in Kisii and Nandi counties, citing religious observance among members of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.

In a statement on Sunday, September 13, the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) said the elections, which had initially been scheduled for Saturday, October 3, will now be held a day earlier.

"In consideration of the religious observance of the Seventh-day Adventist faith in Kisii and Nandi Counties, the National Elections Board hereby notifies all Grassroots Polling Centre Officials intending to contest for Ward-level positions, and other concerned Party Members and Stakeholders, that the Grassroots Elections in Kisii and Nandi Counties have been Rescheduled," the statement read.

According to UDA, the revised timetable will see party members in the two counties participate in the grassroots polls on Friday, October 2.

"The elections previously scheduled for Saturday, 3rd October 2026 shall now be conducted on Friday, 2nd October 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m," the statement added.

UDA has also opened the registration portal for members seeking to participate in the grassroots elections, with the registration period set to run for more than two weeks.

"The registration Portal opened today Saturday, 12th September 2026, and will close on Sunday, 27th September 2026 at 5:00 p.m," the statement further read.

UDA said candidates will subsequently undergo verification before the elections are conducted. 

According to the party, candidates’ verification is scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026.

UDA further announced that candidates contesting ward-level grassroots positions will not be required to pay a registration fee.

The National Elections Board urged all party members, officials and other stakeholders affected by the changes to adjust their plans accordingly.

"All concerned parties are hereby requested to take note of the revised date and make the necessary arrangements accordingly," the statement concluded.

This comes weeks after UDA cancelled its grassroots elections held at two polling centres in Garsen Central Ward following disruptions and reported irregularities during the exercise.

In a statement on Thursday, August 20, the party said the affected polling centres are Kipao Primary School and Kipao Secondary School. 

"This is to formally notify all concerned Members, Voters, Candidates, Party Officials and other Stakeholders that the Grassroots Elections conducted at Kipao Primary School and Kipao Secondary School Polling Centers in Garsen Central Ward have been cancelled due to disruptions and reported irregularities that affected the orderly and credible conduct of the exercise," the statement read.

UDA explained that the repeat election was necessary to protect the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.

The party announced that the affected elections will be repeated on Saturday, August 22, with voting scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"To safeguard the integrity, transparency and credibility of the electoral process, the National Elections Board has determined that the affected elections shall be repeated on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m," the statement added.
