Education stakeholders in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County have issued a warning to over 30 private schools over continued poor academic performances in National examinations.

The stakeholders who converged at Uasin Gishu High School in Eldoret Town for the analysis of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) highlighted dismal perfomances in KCSE and KCPE exams by private institutions in the region.

"In fact in KCSE, about twelve schools have continued to post negative results all through. For primary, I have about 20," an education officer from the region stated.

He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the schools have failed to ay their teachers, forcing some of them to down their tools and hence the poor results.

The stakeholders, who comprised school heads, Ministry of Education officials and local administrators and law enforcement, also highlighted teenage pregnancies as a contributor to the poor grades.

They called for a united and determined working relationship between parents, officials and school heads in ensuring the success of learners.

"The government has a very elaborate programme for them, you deliver and go back to school. It is our responsibility as government to ensure they go to school," the official stated.

He warned parents against using pregnancies an an excuse not to take their children to school.

During the meeting, parents were also warned against putting their children through these schools before registering them in other institutions to sit for national examinations.

"This is an unorthodox practice that should stop," he said.
