Ruto was in Nigeria to honour an invitation from billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote.

President William Ruto was in Nigeria on Friday, September 25, to honour an invitation from billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote.

Ruto visited the Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos State, ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dangote East African Refinery in Lamu.

He marvelled at the magnitude and production numbers of the refinery and the infrastructure put in place to facilitate the transportation of the refined products. 

"It is a massive investment with a crude oil refining capacity of 700,000 barrels a day and produces more than 100 million litres of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel every day. The company has built 120km of sea cables to move crude from ships to the refinery," Ruto said.

The President acknowledged the refinery as a testament to how partnerships between governments, investors and financial institutions can benefit the locals.

He expressed confidence that the Dangote East African Refinery will have the same effect in the region, especially in Kenya.

"The refinery whose construction we launch in Kenya next week will be bigger. It will transform the petroleum sector in our country and region by providing fuel reliability and security, scaling up industrialisation, and creating 60,000 jobs.

"When the refinery is completed, spin-off industries will emerge, including the production of fertilisers, chemicals, and packaging," Ruto stated.

President Ruto is set to preside over the groundbreaking ceremony of the refinery on Wednesday, September 30, during his tour of the Coastal Region.

The refinery, valued at an estimated Ksh2 trillion, is expected to process crude from Lokichar, Turkana County, and supply refined petroleum products to markets across East and Central Africa," the statement concluded.

State House confirmed that the Head of State will also issue 200,000 title deeds across the six counties as part of his administration’s broader efforts to resolve historical and administrative land challenges

He will also commission new projects and inspect the progress of existing ones, and engage residents and local leaders on development priorities.
