ODM leader Raila Odinga has rubbished claims that he is in the process of creating a coalition to stop Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to power in 2022 after President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office.
Speaking on Thursday night, Raila noted that his political philosophy is not anchored on forming alliances to stop certain individuals from winning elections, he emphasized that he cannot be part of such an arrangement.
“Not at all, Who is William Ruto to be worried about? Raila Odinga will never be in a thing like that… That we are forming an alliance to fight William Ruto why? Who is William Ruto to be fought?” Odinga posed.

As to whether he can support a candidate other than himself in the 2022 presidential election, Raila said: “Why not? It doesn’t have to be myself… Remember in my other incarnation when nobody else at that time was willing to step down, I basically had the courage to come out and say mzee Kibaki tosha.
Regarding his recent exchange with his former running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, Odinga noted that it should neither be taken seriously, nor interpreted to mean that they are fighting.
“We are not fighting, you know Kenyans are not used to democratic discussions. When Kalonzo says he will be very stupid to support me he is just expressing an opinion and that is not a crime… It is just like a banter, there is no war between us,” Odinga opined.
