Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has stated that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) win in the Kiambaa by-election should worry Deputy President William Ruto.
IEBC on Friday declared UDA candidate John Wanjiku Njuguna the winner of the Kiambaa Constituency by-election.
Wanjiku was declared the Kiambaa MP-elect after securing 21, 773 votes against Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama's 21, 263.
According to Waiguru, the win by UDA candidate John Wanjiku is the best they can do in Central Kenya.
"Wanjiku was declared the Kiambaa MP-elect after securing 21, 773 votes against Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama's 21, 263.In Kenya’s electoral history by-elections in Kenya have always been outliers with little or no relationship with the general election. Having said that there are two warnings that could be extracted for both UDA and Jubilee from these by-elections.

"For Jubilee, it is that its core supporters are unhappy and urgent action is needed to forestall further downwards slide. For UDA this is probably the best they will do in Central Kenya. That should worry DP Ruto who needs 101% of Mt Kenya support if his candidacy is to convert to the State House. But it is still a year before the 2022 elections which in politics is a lifetime," the Governor's statement read.
At the same time, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu downplayed the win by UDA.
"Three weeks of Jubilee MPs campaign chipped away 50% of a 4yr hustler narrative in Kiambaa & Muguga. We now know what to do," MP Ngunjiri tweeted.
