The Jubilee Party has reportedly suspended 2022 coalition talks with ODM Party to create room for internal restructuring following recent losses in its perceived strongholds.
Reports indicate that the talks have been suspended for five months, during which the Jubilee Party will work on strengthening its internal structures and grass-root presence.
Leaders privy to a Monday meeting that passed the suspension noted that the move is temporary, adding that Jubilee hopes to increase its stake and bargaining power through the rebuilding exercise.
“We agreed that at least for now, we should drop the idea of the merger and instead focus on revamping the party for the next four months.
“The merger idea is on the table but not for now. Let it come at a later date when we have finished rejuvenating our party and made it a formidable force,” Jubilee Party Deputy Secretary-General Joshua Kutuny told a local daily.

Kutuny’s remark was backed by Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group secretary Adan Keynan who said the party will pursue coalitions after buildings its internal structures.
"Once we are done with that and the party becomes visible at all levels, we will then decide who our partners would be in the countdown to the 2022 polls…Certainly, we will enter into coalitions with like-minded parties and groups," Keynan said.
Talks between Jubilee and ODM began a few months ago, but were made public last month.
By press time, ODM was yet to issue a statement on the reported suspension of the talks.
