The Government of Kenya has directed all Civil servants who are yet to get the Covid-19 jab to do so by latest August 23, 2021.

In a letter sent to all Principal Secretaries, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua noted that any civil servant who will not have received the first jab by the said will face disciplinary action.

According to Kinyua, the government has discovered that there has been a low uptake of the vaccine among civil servants especially those in the security and teaching sectors.

Kinyua claimed that some civil servants deliberately avoided the jam so that they can stay away from the office arguing that they are working from home. This he says has hampered service delivery in government agencies.

In order to ensure that the directive is effective, Kinyua noted that all civil servants will be prioritized in the ongoing vaccination exercise.

It was observed that some public servants have deliberately avoided getting vaccinated so that they can stay away from work under the guise of working from home. This has negatively affected service delivery to the public.

“It has therefore been decided that all civil servants will be prioritized in the ongoing vaccination exercise and that those who will not have been given the 1st jab by August 23, 2021, be treated as discipline cases and appropriate action against them,” Kinyua’s statement read in part.
