Boda boda operators are fighting over a donation given to them by Deputy President William Ruto.

Boda boda operators in Kitengela town are fighting over a donation given to them by Deputy President William Ruto.

A section of the 7,512 registered boda boda operators is said to have differed over the sharing of the DP’s donation.

Some have accused the association’s leaders of shortchanging them.

According to some of the association members, the money donated by DP Ruto was intended to start an income-generating project by the riders.

However, some claim that their leaders took the money and shared it among themselves and a few other riders.

A delegation of Kitengela Market traders and boba boda riders had been invited for a quorum at DP Ruto's residence earlier in October.

Uhuru's Take

The recent boda boda leadership wrangles in the populous town seem to have fuelled the divisions over the sharing of the money with accusations and counter-accusations among the factions.

Just last week President Uhuru Kenyatta revealed that riders from Kisii found it hard to agree on how to spend a donation he had given them.

He also praised the industry for the role it's playing and urged them to find an investment scheme that would suit them

"Boda boda industry is a sleeping giant that needs to be awakened which is why boda boda investment scheme is a great idea," the President said.

"Every individual should take pride in paying the price for what they want. If you do not pay the price, someone will pay to misuse you," he added.
