The government will have to shelve and spend at least KSH14 Billion of taxpayers' money if the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) proceeds for a referendum, IEBC has declared.
The commission through the acting CEO Hussein Marjan on Wednesday told parliament they had analysed what will be required to run the anticipated referendum adding that they were ready.
Marjan was appearing before the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi.
"It will cost Sh14 billion though we are still fine-tuning," Marjan told the MPs.
The estimates, he said, were anchored on an estimated 19.6 million voters, a number the commission believes has increased over the years.

IEBC has dismissed BBI proposals on its composition, fronting their own recommendations that seek to reduce the number of commissioners to five, including the chairperson.
The electoral body is opposed to the BBI proposal to allow political parties to nominate commissioners.
Earlier this week, the commission in a public statement termed the proposal as a drawback on the agency’s independence.
