Governor Francis Kimemia admitted Mt Kenya leaders told "a lot of lies" about Raila when he was running against retired President Mwai Kibaki during 2007 general election.

Nyeri County Assembly Speaker John Kaguchia has criticised Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia over remarks he made over the weekend during ODM leader Raila Odinga's function.

Speaking when he attended Azimio La Umoja Kenya Nzima campaign rally in Nyeri, Kimemia admitted Mt Kenya leaders told "a lot of lies" about Raila when he was running against retired President Mwai Kibaki during the 2007 general election.

“When I was in Kibaki’s camp and Raila was our opponent, we said lies about him. We ruined his reputation, a lot. I can tell you today that we were telling lies. It was all politics,” he said on Saturday.

One of the allegations Kimemia's team levelled against Raila was that he would antagonise and alienate Central Kenya if he defeated Kibaki to become the country's fourth President.

Speaking during Citizen TV's 'Day Break' segment on Monday morning, Kaguchia said it was wrong for Kimemia and his group to drive a propaganda against the ODM boss since some people, like himself, believed the lies that were told about Raila.

"When Governor Kimemia said they have been lying about Raila Odinga, I feel cheated because growing up I knew Raila was this person who is not good," he said.

The lawyer-cum-politician suspected people campaigning for Raila were also using dirty tricks to disrepute Deputy President William Ruto ahead of next year's polls.

"Could we be misguiding the next generation by lying about DP Ruto and demonizing him?" posed Kaguchia.
