Lawyer Otieno faulted the police for ignoring an issued court order blocking the arrest of the businessman.

The dramatic and chaotic arrest of businessman Jimi Wanjigi led to properties worth Sh10 million being destroyed, his lawyer Willis Otieno has told the court.

In his presentation, Lawyer Otieno faulted the police for ignoring an earlier issued court order blocking the arrest of the businessman.

He said the forceful arrest saw properties destroyed and according to preliminary assessment, the value of the items police broke at Wanjigi's Kwacha Group of Companies offices is in millions.

" They ignored the court order and forcefully broke into Wanjigi's offices belonging to Kwa ha group of companies and caused damage to properties worth more than Sh10m and we are still doing an assessment," lawyer Otieno said.

The lawyer also told the court that the arrest of Wanjigi was illegal and unconstitutional since the tycoon had an order barring his arrest.

He told the court that police acted against the law by detaining his client.

"Despite being served with a court order proceeded to effect an arrest and proceeded to detain Mr Wanjigi. Just because they were on an adrenaline rush to undermine the law and the constitution," he said.

Wanjigi was arrested on Tuesday after 20 hours of being under siege at his offices off General Mathenge Road in Parklands.

The dramatic arrest saw the police break into the office of the businessman to have him arrested after he declined to present himself to the authorities who had pitched a tent in his offices.

Wanjigio blamed his woes on politics saying a section of leaders is uncomfortable with his presidential bid.
