National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has asked Mt Kenya leaders to unite and front a presidential candidate instead of bargaining for the deputy president slot.
The Speaker was addressing a section of Mt Kenya leaders who have been complaining about Deputy President William Ruto and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi's pre-election working pact.
According to Muturi, the leaders in question are afraid that the pact could deny Mt Kenya region the running mate slot in DP Ruto's UDA.
"How timid can leaders be to go begging for the number two position as if this whole region cannot produce one leader," Muturi said while addressing grassroot leaders in Limuru.
Muturi said he had no issue against the UDA-ANC pact, however, insisting that Mt Kenya leaders should forge their own unity and stop subjecting themselves to plans made elsewhere.

“Their unity, UDA and ANC is their own business, let’s organise our own unity in Mt Kenya and negotiate our future as one team,” said Muturi.
This comes barely a day after Muturi explained why he missed the much hyped Amani National Congress (ANC) National Delegates Conference on Sunday, January 23 at the Bomas of Kenya.
In an update on his Twitter page, the speaker noted that he skipped the meeting due to suspicion that ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi had invited Deputy President William Ruto to the meeting.
"I did not attend ANC NDC as we were surprised that William Ruto would attend and Musalia Mudavadi did not have the courtesy to inform us, making us very suspicious of what they would declare and correctly we have seen the formation of another coalition with William Ruto, which we have never discussed at any time," Muturi tweeted.
