Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has refuted reports that he held a closed-door meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga at a hotel in Mombasa for close to four hours on Wednesday, February 20, 2022.

Kalonzo who was addressing members of the public in Kwale on Monday, February 21, clarified that he met with the former premier by chance, dismissing reports by the media that the two had a discussion over a possible coalition.

The presidential hopeful stated that he and Odinga bumped into each other at a hotel where they were having breakfast, said their hellos and went separate ways.

“I went for breakfast at a hotel where Gideon Moi was and met Raila by chance. I only greeted him and had my breakfast at a separate table,” Kalonzo stated.

He also told off a section of leaders allied to the Azimio La Umoja Coalition for being too pushy in their bid to strike a deal with the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).

“There is no need to rush a coalition pact with Azimio. In fact, we want them to join us. We must have an honest discussion. If I meet Raila, I will ask him to support my presidential bid this time round after backing him twice.

"They are saying that Kalonzo and Gideon must join Azimio by force. Who are those saying that? We shall talk because there is no need to rush. We are not joining the other team," he stated.

Kalonzo maintained that OKA is looking to partner with like-minded leaders to back their presidential bid and not the other way around.
