Sarah Mwangi, a producer and journalist has since declared her bid for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat.

As the August 9, 2022, General Elections draw near, more and more political aspirants are tossing themselves into the ring, contesting various leadership positions.

Nairobi, the capital, has been the most interesting of battlegrounds ahead of the August polls, as various leaders seek to 'steady' the country's heartbeat following a turbulent 2017-2022 term.

Sarah Mwangi, a producer and journalist has since declared her bid for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat.

She boasts an impressive career in the media industry and believes the time is ripe for her to impact the country at legislation level.

Speaking to Nairobileo.co.ke on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Ms Mwangi stated it is vital that the next Nairobi Woman Rep takes into account the plight of women and youth in County 47.

Ahead of the polls, leaders are strategising on political vehicles to use, have you settled on a party or coalition?

There’s no party or coalition affiliation as yet. I am in talks with several of the parties and if we don’t agree then independent it is.

What do you think about the job done by your predecessors?

My predecessors have done the bare minimum but I am going for this now because the time is now. There are lots of women's issues that have not been taken care of and this is my focus. Empowerment of women and youth, better policies for businesses to thrive and respect for women as humans and not 2nd class citizens.

Why and how are you different?

I am stepping up for better legislation and representation of the people. Change starts with us and If we don’t stand up then we miss out on a lifelong change of our lives now and for future generations.

The youth must be part of the change-makers and not spectators. We have previously been watching others while demanding change. Let us be the change we wanna see. Leadership is about changing the lives of all not just those in our circles. Our forefathers fought for this, let us live it and make Kenya independent again.

Nairobi being the capital, has its fair share of challenges, what can you do to improve living standards in county 47?

We shall work in unison with the leadership of Nairobi county and youth and women groups to make county 47 a proper friendly economic hub. We have to make it easy for people to run businesses that are in terms of licensing so we have more business operating and an increase in taxpayers.

The arts and creative economy must be key and supported financially and policy-wise. This is an industry that can change Kenya’s economy and I shall ensure there’s a huge boost for this.
