  • The MP died from diabetes in Mumias.
  • The alleged lover has come forward to claim recognition from the family.

The lover to the late Matungu MP Justus Murunga has been warned she will have to pay Sh10 million in a lawsuit stopping the legislator's burial.

Murunga's first wife Christabel has warned the alleged lover, Agnes Wangui Wambiri, that she will foot the lawmaker's mortuary bills if she doesn't review her demands.

Wangui filed the lawsuit stopping Murunga's burial demanding recognition by the lawmaker's family.

Christabel, in her response to Agnes's suit, said that the late Murunga had only two wives.

"Neither myself nor [the] second defendant, Grace Murunga, knows the plaintiff or her children."

The widow said the injunction issued against Murunga's burial was "disruptive" because, as a family, they had already settled on November 28 as the late parliamentarian's burial date.

"We have been informed that due to the existing COVID-19 guidelines [on funerals], the deceased should be interred the earliest possible," read a part of Christabel's affidavit.

Christabel further said that she wasn't opposed to Agnes's application to have her husband's DNA samples extracted for analysis to establish whether he was the biological father of Agnes's children.

Wangui obtained a court order stopping the burial of Murunga until her paternity suit is heard and determined.

"The applicant [is hereby directed] to serve upon the respondents (Murunga's first and second wives) for inter part hearing before Hon. Muholi SRM on November 26, 2020," instructed Milimani Principal Magistrate Agnes Ndunge Makau.

Murunga died of diabetes on November 14, 2020, in Mumias, Kakamega County.

His remains were transported to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on November 15 for preservation.
