Deputy President William Ruto's Head of Communications Hussein Mohamed has issued an update on the selection of running mate for Kenya Kwanza.
DP Ruto was on Saturday expected to announce his deputy but there was a standoff after the possible running mates were narrowed down to two candidates.
Sources disclosed that DP Ruto and his team were divided between the choice of Senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
In an update on Sunday, Hussein said that the team had finally settled on one of the candidates.
"The running mate issue was also extensively discussed. We are happy to announce that we have a decision as Kenya Kwanza. A decision has been reached and will be officially communicated to you on Sunday," Hussein told the press.

The former Citizen TV anchor never specified the time but assured journalists the decision of the running mate would be announced today.
Hussein stated that leaders of Kenya Kwanza Justin Muturi, William Kabogo, Mwangi Kiunjuri, Alfred Mutua, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetangula were present.
By 5 PM on Saturday, Kindiki and Rigathi were spotted leaving DP Ruto's Karen residence amid reports of tension and stalemate.
However, allies of DP Ruto and Kenya Kwanza principals were left behind to continue with the negotiations.
