Deputy President William Ruto has picked Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate ahead of the August polls.
Addressing the press on Sunday, May 15, DP Ruto stated that they had a meeting on Saturday that last 17 hours.
"We had an intensive meeting and amongst the issues we prosecuted were integration of the new members, formalization of the engagement, campaign program, and how to coordinate and harmonise our agenda from the different parties," DP Ruto said.
On his deputy search, DP Ruto announced that after lengthy deliberations he had picked Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
"After lengthy consultations, we have settled on MP Rigathia Gachagua as my deputy," DP Ruto announced.

The Deputy President was to announce his deputy on Saturday, May 14 but the entire process was postponed due to a standoff after the selection narrowed down to two candidates.
DP Ruto and his team was divided between the choice of Senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
Deputy President William Ruto's Head of Communications Hussein Mohamed would later announce that after an extensive deliberation they had already settled on one.
"The running mate issue was also extensively discussed. We are happy to announce that we have a decision as Kenya Kwanza. A decision has been reached and will be officially communicated to you on Sunday," Hussein stated.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had given candidates until May 16 at midnight to announce their running mates.
