United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama has refuted reports that he is planning to ditch the Kenya Kwanza.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama has refuted reports that he is planning to ditch the Kenya Kwanza coalition led by Deputy President William Ruto.

Reports had circulated on social media that Muthama was planning to ditch the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In the statement issued on Monday, May 30, Muthama dismissed the claims affirming that he was still in the Kenyan Kwanza coalition and chairman of UDA.

"Johnson Muthama is going nowhere. I am still the chairman of UDA Kenya, the biggest and most vibrant political party in Kenya. That is the inexorable truth. I have and will remain focused, faithful and true to UDA Kenya cause until we form the next Government under Dr. William Ruto," part of the statement read.

Muthama's assurance to UDA comes a day after Kipruto Arap Kirwa, who was the Vice Chair of UDA, resigned and joined the Azimio coalition led by Raila Odinga.

While announcing his departure from Deputy President William Ruto's UDA, Kirwa said he had to retreat and think when the party announced Rigathi Gachagua as the Kenya Kwanza running mate.

According to Kirwa, that was the clearest indication that there was no democracy within the party.

"From today (Sunday), I Kipruto Arap Kirwa, have resigned as vice chairman of UDA," he announced during the Azimio rally in Bungoma county.
