Deputy President William Ruto has been accused of a lacking a clear stand on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional amendment push.
This is after the DP put out a tweet indicating that some of his concerns had been addressed making the report better as it now addressed issues facing Kenyans on a daily basis.
“New Article 11a in the BBI Constitution bill introduced after Bomas will anchor the ordinary peoples' hustler economics of wheelbarrow, boda boda, mama mboga, pastoralists/butchers and guaranteed minimum returns on coffee, tea, korosho, sukari and maize. Bottom up not trickledown economics,” the DP tweeted.
Reacting to the tweet, US-based Kenyan lawyer Makau Mutua said Ruto is yet to decide whether to join the referendum team or oppose the document, adding that he is currently seating on the fence.
“On BBI @WilliamsRuto has become a Watermelon — a total Chameleon. He cannot decide if he supports, or opposes, BBI. Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea," Makau Mutua tweeted.

“DP @WilliamsRuto should come out and openly support BBI — stop yo-yoing to have it both ways. He’s met his Waterloo. It’s time for him to abandon the “hustlers” and pledge allegiance to the “dynasties.” He’s sold the “Hustler Nation” down the river. Sayonara “wheelbarrows,” Mutua divulged.
Makau’s tweets elicited massive reactions with Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen coming out to defend the DP.
“DP Ruto is the only man who spoke against politicized IEBC, Police Council headed by a minister, need for strong Senate, strong and independent Judiciary when your Party leader was flip flopping and desperately supporting anything and everything for the Money and reviving futile fortunes for 2022.
In Kenyan politics, the title ‘Watermelon’ is often used to refer to Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka who many claim is not firm in decision making especially on matters politics.
