President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, June 20, was the host of five Heads of State in an East African Community (EAC) meeting at State House, Nairobi.
The Head of State hosted his EAC counterparts Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Salva Kiir Mayardit (South Sudan) and Felix Tshisekedi (DR Congo).
Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu could not attend the meeting but was represented by Tanzania’s ambassador to Kenya, High Commissioner John Stephen Simbachawene.
The meeting was the 3rd EAC Heads of State Conclave on Inter-Congolese Dialogue of the Nairobi Process on the Peace and Security Situation in Eastern DR Congo.

“Today's Heads of State high-level meeting, hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his capacity as the Co-Convenor of the Peace Process and Chairperson of EAC, is an acceleration of ongoing regional efforts to attain sustainable peace and security in Eastern DR Congo,” read a statement by State House.
The meeting comes barely days after President Kenyatta ordered immediate deployment of the regional military to some parts of DR Congo.
The military was to liase with DRC security forces in the restoration of peace in the disturbed parts of Eastern Congo.
"The East African Regional Force shall be deployed to the Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces immediately to stabilize the zone and enforce peace in support of the DRC security forces and in close coordination with MONUSCO," read a statement by President Kenyatta.
