The Presidential Debate Secretariat has made changes to the moderators of the Deputy Presidential Debate.

The presidential debate secretariat has made changes to the moderators of the 2022 deputy presidential debate scheduled for Tuesday, July 19.

In a press statement, the first-tier debate will be moderated by Zubeida Kananu Koome of KTN News and Francis Gachuri of Citizen TV.

The first tier of the debate was previously to be moderated byTV47 presenter Linda Alela and KBC's Jacob Kioria.

Koome and Gachuri will moderate the deputy presidential candidates that polled less than 5 percent in three recent opinion polls, who are Justina Wambui Wamae of Roots Party and Ruth Wambui Mucheru of Agano Party.

However, in the second-tier, there were no changes as James Smart of NTV and Sophia Wanuna of KTN News will moderate the debate.

Smart and Wanuna will moderate the debate between Azimio presidential running mate Martha Koome and Kenya Kwanza’s Rigathi Gachagua.

Panel discussions for both debates will be moderated by Citizen TV’s Trevor Ombija.

“The moderators have been selected based on a rigorous criteria that abides to among other things the principles of impartiality, fairness and objectivity, a strong understanding of the Kenyan political landscape and the major issues of the upcoming election,” read a statement by the secretariat.

The deputy presidential debate will be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Karen, Nairobi from 5 pm.
