The IPSOS poll has revealed 12 battleground counties that will determine the country’s next president.

An opinion result released by Ipsos Synovate on Tuesday, August 2, has revealed the 12 battleground counties that will determine the country’s next president.

In the 12 counties, the two leading presidential contenders, William Ruto and Raila Odinga, are in a neck and neck contest six days to the general election.

The battleground counties are Bungoma, Kiambu, Kitui, Lamu, Marsabit, Mombasa, Nakuru, Narok, Nyamira, Samburu and Tana River.

The popularity of the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza presidential candidates in these 12 counties is below 50 per cent for each.

However, Raila and Ruto command 5 counties each according to the poll where they enjoy a massive support of over 75 percent.

Raila enjoys popularity of over 75 percent in the following counties:

1. Siaya – 90.9 percent

2. Homa Bay – 88.1 percent

3. Kisumu – 87.4 percent

4. Garissa – 80.5 percent

5. Migori – 78 percent

On the other hand, Ruto enjoys massive support in the following counties:

1. Bomet – 95.8 percent

2. Elgeyo Marakwet – 89.2 per cent

3. Kericho – 85.9 percent

4. Embu – 84. 8 percent

5. Tharaka Nithi – 80.2 percent

Meanwhile, the poll revealed that Raila is the leading presidential candidate with 47 percent followed by Ruto who has 41 percent.

The poll was conducted between 23rd - 26th July and it involved 6,105 respondents from all 47 counties.
