In the just concluded August 9 General Election, a number of big names in the entertainment industry threw hats into the ring. 

It was not the first time that celebrities ran for elective offices, there were others who tried before - some even making it to public offices.

With the polls now concluded and winners and losers known, Nairobi Leo looks at how the celebrities faired in the polls.

Winners

Taking his first stab at an elective post, former Kiss 100 radio presenter and comedian Felix Oduor alias Jalang’o floored his closest competitor Nixon Korir to clinch the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.

The renowned radio presenter, who ran on an ODM ticket, garnered 38,948 votes with the incumbent Korir coming second closely with 36,836 votes.

Interestingly, Korir conceded defeat to Jalang’o even before the official announcement by the Returning Officer was made.

Also on the winners’ list was popular gospel musician Eko Dydda who clinched the Mathare North MCA seat.

The musician took it to Instagram to thank his supporters saying it was a landslide win.

Media personality Davidson Ngibuini, popularly known as DNG, also made it to public office after clinching the Woodley Kenyatta Golf Course Ward MCA Seat.

DNG ran on a UDA ticket before claiming victory in his first attempt in an elective position after garnering 6,854 votes to beat incumbent Mwangi Njihia of the Jubilee Party who garnered 6,213 votes.

Losers

Musician Kevin Kioko alias Bahati tried his luck in the Mathare parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket.

Despite confessing to using over Sh33 million in his campaigns, Bahati lost his bid as after he came a distant third in the race with 8,166 votes.

Mathare incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch of ODM won his re-election after garnering 28,098 votes with UDA’s Billian Ojiwa garnering 16, 912 votes.

Comedian Jasper Muthomi alias MC Jessy was in for the Imenti South parliamentary seat as an independent candidate after missing out on the UDA ticket.

MC Jessy conceded defeat to Jubilee’s Shadrack Mwiti before he could be announced officially.

Popular radio presenter Njambi Koikai alias Fyah Mummah also flexed her political muscles in the Dagoretti South Parliamentary race before conceding defeat even before the winner was announced.

Njambi ran as an independent candidate in the race where John Kiarie of the UDA party was later announced winner.
