Chief Justice Martha Koome pleaded with Kenyans to remember the Supreme Court judges in their prayers.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has called on Kenyans to pray for the Supreme Court judges as they retreat for two days before rendering a verdict on the presidential election petition.

Koome is the team leader of the jury at the apex court which heard the pleadings of Raila Odinga and Martha Karua who want president-elect William Ruto's victory invalidated.

Besides Koome, the bench comprises Philomena Mwilu, Smokin Wanjala, Isaac Lenaola, Njoki Ndung'u, and Mohammed Ibrahim.

As she adjourned the last sitting on Friday, September 2, Koome admitted that the task ahead of her team was a daunting one, asking Kenyans to be of support to them.

"We continue to ask, as justice Philomena Mwilu has said, that you continue to pray for us so that we can render a judgement that promotes our constitution anchored in the law that nurtures our democracy, brings harmony to our country, and everything good stated in our constitution," the CJ said.

Raila and Karua filed their petition on August 22, seeking to have the outcome of the 2022 presidential vote annulled.

The duo cited electoral fraud on the part of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He faulted the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for allegedly working in cahoots with his (Raila's) opponents to bungle the vote to his detriment.

Raila was declared the first runner-up in the presidential vote after garnering over 6.9 million votes, accounting for 48.8 per cent of the total ballots.

Ruto was declared the president-elect after securing upwards of 7.1 million votes.

The Supreme Court verdict will be final.
