The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has gazetted nominees to the National Assembly and the Senate.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, September 7, gazetted nominees to the National Assembly and the Senate.

In the gazette notice, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati stated that the listed names were validly nominated to represent their political parties.

According to Chebukati, the seats allocated to political parties were proportional to the total number of seats won by candidates of political parties in the recently concluded general election.

“The seats referred to in the schedules have been allocated in proportion to the total number of seats won by the candidates of the political party at the general election held on August 9, 2022,” read part of the gazette notice by Chebukati.

UDA party had five members nominated to the National Assembly as Jackson Kipkemoi, Teresiah Wanjiru, Abdisirat Khalif, Dorothy Muthoni, and Joseph Wainaina were gazetted.

Raila Odinga-led ODM party had three members gazetted as duly nominated to the National Assembly namely: Irene Nyakerario, ODM chairman John Mbadi, and Umulkher Mohamed.

Former Murang’a Women representative Sabina Chege was gazetted as Jubilee Party’s nominee to the National Assembly.

IEBC also gazetted ANC’s Joseph Hamisi and UDM’s Suleka Harun as nominees to the National Assembly.

In the Senate, UDA’s Veronica Nduati, Roselinda Tuya, Miraj Abdillahi, Gloria Magoma, Joyce Chepkoech, Karen Nyamu, Peris Tobiko, and Maureen Mutinda were all gazetted.

ODM nominees to the Senate that were gazetted included Catherine Mumma, Beatrice Oyomo Hamida Kibwana, Betty Montet, and Beth Syengo.

Jubilee’s nominee to the Senate Margaret Kamar was gazetted while UDM’s Mariam Omar and Wiper’s Shakila Mohamed were also gazetted.

To represent the youth in the senate, IEBC gazetted ODM’s Hezena Lemaletian and UDA’s Raphael Mwinzagu.

UDA’s George Mbugua and ODM’s Crystal Asige were gazetted to represent persons with disabilities in the Senate.
