Savula was fronted by DAP-K party to be the Deputy Governor to Barasa to avoid splitting of votes.

He had expressed interest in the governor seat

A statement by the party termed alleged rivalry between Barasa and his Deputy Ayub Savula as sideshow which they are not a party to.

"As a coalition partner, we shall support FCPA Fernandes Barasa OGW to deliver to Kakamega County people on his promises pegged on #MaendeleoNaUsawa devoid of sideshows and blackmails," he said.

"We have an agreement to deliver devolution fruits to the people after the swearing in on Thursday."

In a remarks that has illustrated a looming rivalry, Savula said he is not a Deputy Governor but a co-governor.

"Don't let anyone lie to you that Savula returned to deputyship, we have divided the county government of Kakamega into two. Barasa has taken half and Savula has taken half. Constitutionally, Kamagega has ten ministries. Barasa amechukua ministries tano na mimi nimechukua tano. I am not a deputy governor, I am a co-governor," he stated

At the same time, Savula ignited another war after he claimed he was coerced into supporting Azimio leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.

The remarks is said to have rattled the top leadership of Azimio.
