Following the migration from post-paid electricity to the prepaid token system, many Kenyans have embraced purchasing their token via mobile.
The process is very swift and due to improvements made to the system, the token is received almost immediately after the payment has been made.
Also worth noting is that the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) discontinued its outsourced platform for purchasing tokens.
The primary pay bill number you should always remember is 888880...a simple way to remember it is five 8s and one zero.

Select M-Pesa
Open the “Lipa na M-Pesa” section
Move on to “Pay Bill”
On the “Enter Business No.” prompt, type in 888880
On the “Enter Account Number” prompt type in your Meter Number
On the “Enter Amount” prompt, key in the amount of money that will be deducted from your M-Pesa account
Finally, enter your M-Pesa PIN and send.
You will receive a message from M-Pesa notifying you that the transaction has been successfully processed.
Almost immediately, you will also receive a message from “KENYA POWER” with the token. The message should show you the meter number you have purchased a token for, the token, date and time of purchase, and a comprehensive breakdown of how every shilling has been utilized.
The charges are VAT, Fuel Energy Charge, Forex Charge, EPRA charge, WARMA charge, REP charge, and inflation adjustment.
Avoid purchasing tokens from online scammers who promise to give you more power units than Kenya Power.
