Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji is now the President of the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors (EAAP).
He landed the new role following an election conducted by EAAP members.
EAPP is the regional body that brings prosecutors from Eastern African countries together.
Its aim is to raise standards of professional conduct and ethics for African prosecutors and promote the rule of law, fairness, impartiality, and respect for human rights and improve regional cooperation to combat crime.
Accepting his election, Haji committed himself to delivering his mandate and ensuring that the Association's objectives and vision are achieved.

“This unique opportunity to serve as the President of the Association is a responsibility I will duly undertake to ensure that the objectives of the Association are met. I affirm my commitment to strengthening regional cooperation,” he said.
He thanked EAAP Members for trusting in his leadership abilities saying he would give his best to lead the Association to prosperity.
The new role comes months after Haji was also elected to represent Africa and the Indian Ocean Region at the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
As a member of the Executive Committee, the DPP would be able to advance innovative strategies to tackle Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) and enhance regional and international cooperation and collaboration in the prosecution of transnational organized crime.
Haji also received a certificate of merit for housing the 4th Africa and Indian Ocean region and the East Africa Association of Prosecutors (EAAP) conference in Mombasa early this year.
