Central Organisation Of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has urged President William Ruto to follow in the footsteps of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and ask his Kenya Kwanza camp to tone down politics. 

Speaking on Friday, January 5, Atwoli commended Raila for instructing ODM's elected leaders not to engage in premature campaigns. 

The trade unionist noted that elected leaders should focus on other activities instead of engaging in politics.

“I appreciate the opposition leader, my brother-in-law Raila, who recently advised his ODM people that they should not involve themselves in politics at this time but rather focus on their work first. Even our President, William Ruto, should also advise his supporters and others to put politics aside," said Atwoli.

Raila on January 2 warned ODM leaders against early 2027 campaigns saying it will unsettle leaders and affect service delivery.

"We concluded elections recently and right now some leaders have already declared that I am the incoming MCA while others are eyeing the parliamentary and gubernatorial positions. I don't see anything wrong with aspiring to grow. However, if we engage in early campaigns leaders who feel challenged will stop doing their work and also start campaigning," Raila stated. 

The former Prime Minister urged ODM leaders to wait until 2026 before starting their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election.
