Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has directed security chiefs in Makueni and Taita Taveta counties to resolve the Mtito Andei Town dispute.
Speaking on Monday, March 11 during the launch of the newly created Kambu Sub-County in Makueni, Kindiki ordered Makueni and Taita Taveta County commissioners to hold a joint meeting to address the matter within two weeks.
The Interior CS noted that the solution must be a win-win outcome for the two counties.
"I have also directed the county security team of Makueni and Taita Taveta to have joint sittings under the co-chair chairmanship of Henry Wafula, County Commissioner of Makueni, and Josephine Onunga, County Commissioner of Taita Taveta and in two weeks, you must come up with a win-win and fair outcome so that we can resolve the problem of Mtito Andei between Makueni and Taita Taveta," Kindiki directed.
He also said the security team should work with local leaders in Makueni and Taita Taveta to resolve the border dispute.

Mtito Andei has been at the center of the boundary row between Taita-Taveta and Makueni County, with both counties claiming it.
Taita Taveta leaders argue the border between the two counties is in Mtito Andei, therefore part of the town is its territory on the other hand Makueni claims the boundary is at Man-Eaters, inside Tsavo National Park near Tsavo River.
The Environment and Land Court in October 2022 ruled that Taita Taveta should continue to issue business permits and collect taxes in Mtito Andei.
