The woman reportedly duped a shamba boy to steal the child.

A woman arrested in connection with the theft of two children is in police custody in Nairobi.

Mary Akinyi Mulamula was hunted down by a joint team of the Anti-Human Trafficking Child Protection Unit and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stationed at the Kabete Police Station.

The detectives launched a search for Akinyi after being notified that she had picked up a child from her parents' home in Muchingu, Mukango Sub-Location, Kakamega county.

The child was stolen in June this year.

According to the DCI, the woman convinced a shamba boy at the child's home that she was taking her for registration in a sponsorship program promising a monthly stipend of Sh9,000.

The woman is currently detained at Kabete Police Station.

The caretaker obliged, allowing the woman to leave with the child.

She would never be seen or heard from thereafter.

Dispaired, the family reported to the investigators who started looking for the child.

The woman was found three months later, having the Kakamega child and another one with her.

The victims were rescued and reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, the suspect is being detained at the Kabete Police Station awaiting arraignment.
