The police officer and his accomplices are linked to a series of crimes in Meru County.

A police officer based in Marasabit County has been arrested in connection with a series of crimes in Imenti North and Buuri West in Meru County.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 2, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Corporal Dominic Munene Peter was arrested after detectives discovered that he was working in cahoots with two notorious robbery with violence suspects.

The two suspects, Patrick Muriera M'mbijiwe and Kenneth Muthethia Kiriinya were tracked down to their hideouts and swiftly taken into police custody.

According to DCI, it was following the arrest when investigations revealed that Corporal Munene had been working with the suspects.

"In an unfortunate turn of events, investigations revealed that a police officer best at Marsabit County namely Cpl Dominic Munene Peter has been working in kahoots with the tags by facilitating their evil missions. He was swiftly arrested before holing up," DCI said in a statement.

DCI said after thorough questioning, the suspects directed the officers to Kianjuri village where they had buried the firearm in a hidden spot.

At the site, the officers dug up a hole where they recovered an M16 model (SAR) rifle, along with two magazines and 67 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition, a black jacket, two gunny bags, and a brown Marvin.

"The Directorate Of Criminal Investigations remains unwavering in its commitment to combat criminal activities and create a safer and more secure environment for all," DCI said.

According to DCI, the three suspects are linked to three robberies with violence incidents on diverse dates in September.

DCI said on September 5, 2024, the suspects invaded a residence in Magati village with two cows, a Friesian and an Ayrshire.

During this brazen act, DCI said they discharged five rounds into the air, causing panic among the local villagers who fled to safety.

In a subsequent alarming event on September 15, 2024, DCI stated that the same suspects targeted a home in Rugusu, where they stole a dairy cow.

They loaded the animal into a pickup truck and disappeared without a trace after shooting the homeowner, a woman, for raising an alarm.

Unfortunately, she was declared dead upon arrival at Kiirua Mission Hospital, per DCI.

In their latest attack, the suspects are said to have attempted to torch a four-bedroom house but the house did not catch fire.

"Frustrated by their failed arson attempt, they indiscriminately shot at the door of the house, hitting the man of the house three times in the belly and his wife in the abdomen. The victims are admitted at Kiirua mission hospital in serious condition," DCI said.

The operation to bring the three to book was conducted by a crack team of detectives from the DCI Headquarters Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Operation Support Unit (OSU), Operation Action Team (OAT) alongside their counterparts from Imenti Central and Buuri West sub-counties.
