The three will serve in their respective positions for a period of three years, effective November 22, 2024.

President William Ruto has appointed former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Robert Kibochi to the Board of Directors of Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital. 

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, November 22, the President said Kibochi will serve as Chairperson of the board for three years.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 1 (a) of the Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital Order, 2024, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appoint General (Rtd) Robert Kibochi to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital, for a period of 3 years, with effect from the 22nd November 2024," the notice read.

Additionally, Ruto appointed former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo to the Kenya Sugar Board for three years, effective November 22, 2024.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 1 (a) of the Sugar Act, 2024, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appoint Nicholas Gumbo (Eng) to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Kenya Sugar Board, for a period of 3 years, with effect from the 22nd November, 2024," another gazette notice read.

Equally, Ruto appointed former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra to Kenya Biovax Institute Limited to serve as chairperson for a period of three years. 

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 1 (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, appoint Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Kenya Biovax Institute Limited, for a period of 3 years, with effect from the 22nd November, 2024," the notice read.

The Kenya Sugar Board is a regulatory body established under the Sugar Act, aimed at overseeing and promoting the sugar industry in the country.  

Its key functions include regulating the sector, coordinating activities among stakeholders, and ensuring equitable access to resources.  

The KSB also facilitates research dissemination, monitors market conditions, and arbitrates disputes within the industry.

On the other hand, the Kenya Biovax Institute Limited, established in 2021, is a state agency focused on the manufacture, packaging, and commercialization of specialized health products, particularly vaccines and therapeutics. 

The institute collaborates with research entities to translate scientific innovations into market-ready products. 

Its phased approach to manufacturing includes initial packaging processes, with plans to develop full vaccine production capabilities by 2027.
